Schur Flexibles Group in talks to acquire French firm UNI Packaging

Austri-based Schur Flexibles Group (SF)) has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire French flexible packaging producer UNI Packaging.

The proposed acquisition is expected to strengthen Schur Flexibles market position in Europe, specifically in the cheese and dairy, as well as fresh food and convenience markets.

The deal is subject to both internal and external approval, including authorisation from the relevant competition authorities

Based in Averdoingt of France, UNI Packaging provides various solutions, including co-extrusion, rotogravure, flexography, digital, film lamination, sleeve bag forming and logistics.

UNI’s flexographic presses hold capacity to print up to 1350mm wide and eight colors, while rotogravure presses can be used for printing on both flexible film and paper based substrates.

The company has seven production sites and five logistics hubs, in addition to European sales offices.

Schur Flexibles Group managing director Michael Schernthaner said: “UNI Packaging would perfectly complement and enhance our business portfolio. It is an established player which keeps breaking new ground.

Based in Baden near Vienna, Schur Flexibles Group provides high-barrier packaging solutions to the customers in the food, tobacco and pharmaceutical industries.

The group, which has 12 companies, operates 14 production facilities in Germany, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Greece and Russia.

In February this year, Schur Flexibles acquired premium packaging manufacturers from the Clondalkin Group for an undisclosed amount.

The company acquired Cats-Hänsel with the two sites Cats Flexibles Packaging B.V., Rotterdam/Netherlands and Hänsel Flexible Packaging, Freital/Germany, as well as Nimax B.V., Elst/Netherlands.
