RKW installs new extrusion machine for agricultural films at Michelstadt facility

PKBR Staff Writer Published 16 April 2018

RKW, a provider of film solutions, has installed a new extrusion machine for agricultural films at its Michelstadt location in Germany.

The new extrusion machine, which started operations, manufactures films ranging between 8m and18m (26ft to 59ft).

The firm has also constructed a new building for the machine, which features an advanced infrastructure that is in line with operating and product logistics requirements.

RKW has invested in the extrusion machine to meet the growing demand from the customers in the agricultural sector for the films.

With a capacity to cover wide range of films, the new machine will help the company to manage the seasonal order peaks effectively.

Focusing on the international growth markets, the firm is further extending its agricultural operations and strengthening Michelstadt as an agricultural competence center.

This year, RKW has also installed new machinery solutions in Hoogstraten of Belgium.

RKW’s Michelstadt site general manager Bernd Brenner said: “With the new machine, we have boosted our site’s extrusion capacity by more than 23 percent as well as creating new jobs.

“Expanding this capacity is an important step for us in our efforts to establish our Michelstadt site as an agricultural competence center in line with our company strategy and to shift our focus even more on to international growth markets.”

Recently, RKW unveiled a sustainable and aluminum-free butter wrap alternative at the Dairy Innovation Summit 2018 in the Netherlands.

Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Commission, the firm’s FPO is used as a butter wrap by the customers.

Based in Frankenthal, RKW offers hygiene and agricultural films, films for the beverage industry and packaging for powdery goods.

The firm also manufactures films and nonwovens for medical applications, as well as chemical and converting industries.

With around 3,000 employees, the company processes 416,674 tons of plastic materials at 20 locations across the globe.
