PKBR Staff Writer Published 14 December 2017

Consumer products company Colgate-Palmolive has joined the How2Recycle label program to incorporate recycled content on its products in an effort to make packaging more recyclable.

The How2Recycle, a project of Sustainable Packaging Coalition project, is intended to standardize labeling system to provide customers with clear recycling instructions.

The Sustainable Packaging Coalition is an organization of companies, government officials, and academics focusing on making packaging more sustainable.

Colgate-Palmolive now plans to use the How2Recycle label on its products in stores across the US.

How2Recycle project associate Caroline Cox said: “We’re thrilled a company with such large international reach is committed to communicating accurate, harmonised recycling instructions on package.

“We’re excited to welcome Colgate-Palmolive to the How2Recycle labelling programme and helping millions of individuals to recycle more, and better.”

Initially, Colgate-Palmolive plans to introduce the How2Recycle label for its products such as Suavitel fabric conditioner, Softsoap Earth Blends hand soap and bodywash, as well as Hill’s Pet Nutrition treats and Murphy Oil Soap cleaner.

Colgate-Palmolive packaging sustainability manager Anne Bedarf said: “People rely on Colgate-Palmolive not only to provide them with great products, but also to be transparent with the information we provide.

“Encouraging consumers when it comes to recycling is a natural fit that supports our corporate commitments to sustainability.”

The firm, which is also a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, Colgate-Palmolive owns a wide range of household brands including Colgate, Palmolive, Ajax, Murphy Oil Soap, Speed Stick, among others.
